Simon Jordan believes “choker” Garry Monk was the reason Leeds failed to finish in the Championship play-offs this season and has urged Crystal Palace to look elsewhere.

Monk, 38, resigned as manager of the Elland Road club on Thursday, after talks broke down between the former Swansea boss and Italian owner Andrea Radrizzani over a new contract.

Replying to a fan on his personal Twitter account, former Palace owner Jordan urged his old side to forget aboutĀ hiring Monk as he is “not a Premier League manager”.

He also claimed Monk’s management was the reason that the Yorkshire giants failed to finish in the top six of England’s second tier, despite remaining in the play-offs for five months between November and April.

Crystal Palace are on the lookout for a new manager following the surprise resignation of former England boss Sam Allardyce, who has now retired from managing in professional football.

Monk has been installed as favourite to take over at Selhurst Park, according to Sky Bet, following his resignation from the former Champions League side.

The former defender guided his side to seventh in the Championship, defying pre-season expectations of a mid-table finish that gave Leeds fans reason to dream of a return to the Premier League.

However, in just Radrizzani’s second day in complete control at Elland Road, Leeds have lost their manager and will now be on the lookout for a new boss with Sky Bet pricingĀ Aitor Karanka as the favourite to replace Monk.
