Leeds should consider making a summer swoop for Michael Kightly to help bolster their squad for next season.

Burnley announced their retained list on Tuesday and the left winger has been released, as cited by the club’s official website.

He will now be available for a summer move and the Whites should move quickly for the 31-year-old, who would be a perfect fit for several Championship clubs due to his know-how.

Kightly has made 161 appearances in England’s second tier during his career, featuring for Wolves, Burnley, Watford and most recently Burton.

Leeds could do with some vital experience of the league after just missing out on the play-off spot.

Kightly has slipped down the pecking order at Turf Moor and leaves the Clarets after making 88 appearances for the Premier League side.

The Englishman spent the second half of the season on loan at Championship outfit Burton and proved that he can make a huge impact in the second division.

The tricky wide man made 12 appearances for Burton, scoring four goals and supplying one assist to help keep them in the league.

Leeds need to seriously consider a move for him and the fact that he is out of contract means they could snap him up for a free transfer.

Garry Monk’s squad were a highly impressive outfit during the season, but the main criticism was the lack of quality from the wide areas.

Kightly would be a brilliant addition at Elland Road and certainly fill a huge void in the Whites line-up.

Leeds constantly rotated between the likes of Hadi Sacko, Souleymane Doukara, Kemar Roofe, Alfonso Pedraza and Stuart Dallas, but would be a much better outfit if they could strengthen out wide.
