Leeds suffered devastating heartbreak when their late capitulation saw them miss out on promotion to the Premier League.

But it is imperative that Leeds get back up, dust themselves off, and try again next season.

To do that, Leeds will need new additions, but only once they finally sort out the future of manager Garry Monk.

This summer, the Championship club must look to bolster their attacking ranks, particularly having lost the likes of Alfonso Pedraza, Hadi Sacko and Modou Barrow following the expiry of their loan spells.

Meanwhile, the future of top goalscorer Chris Wood remains uncertain, and if Leeds take him out of their side, there’s little clarity on where the goals are going to come from.

Therefore, Monk must prioritise both goalscoring prowess and creativity when he searches for a new attacker this summer.

One potential addition, who could certainly help them on the road to promotion next season, is Marvin Emnes.

The 28-year-old will be available on a free transfer this summer, after Swansea confirmed on their official website on Monday that he would not be offered a new deal.

He had struggled to make an impact in the Premier League with the Swans, but has performed much better, and much more consistently in the second-tier.

Emnes spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, where he contributed four goals and seven assists from 35 appearances, as the club were relegated from the Championship.

Leeds fans could well consider a move for Emnes a significant gamble, but given he is available on a free, and has previous ties to manager Monk, it could be a gamble worth taking.

Monk played alongside Emnes during the attacker’s initial loan spells at Swansea during the 2010-11 and 2013-14 seasons, before signing him on a permanent deal during his first season as manager in 2014-15.

If there is a manager that is going to get the best out of Emnes next season, it will be Monk.

Primarily a centre-forward, the former Netherlands youth international is also comfortable playing in the wider areas, and that is likely to be where Leeds would want to utilise him if he were to move to Elland Road.

Aside from Pablo Hernandez, Leeds lack someone who can channel a regular supply to Wood from the wings, and Emnes could be a valuable addition.
