Vinnie Jones wants to replace Monk at Leeds

|

Leeds icon Vinnie Jones has confidently stated “give it to me” when responding to the possibility of replacing Garry Monk as manager.

The club confirmed on their official website on Thursday afternoon that Monk had opted to resign from his managerial post after one season in charge.

It is said that the Championship side were left “shocked” and “disappointed” at Monk’s decision to leave after guiding them to a top seven finish in the Championship.

At this moment in time, according to the latest betting odds, former Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka is favourite for the vacant post.

Former Elland Road midfielder Jones, 52, who is fondly remembered for spearheading the club to the second division title in 1990, offered a fascinating response to a Leeds fan who had asked him to send in his application form at Elland Road.

“Give it to me,” Jones wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Let’s get this show on the road.”

Monk leaves the club having guided them to within five points of the promotion places in what was a relatively successful campaign.

The club’s new owner Andrea Radrizzani, who completed his full takeover of the club on Tuesday, will now be under pressure to bring in a high-quality boss.

There is no doubt that the Leeds faithful were left shocked at Monk’s decision to quit the club in such an abrupt manner when many were expecting him to extend his contract.

Despite leaving, Monk did very well in turning Leeds into promotion hopefuls and his work at Elland Road will no doubt attract the interest of others clubs who are currently looking for new managers.
