Leeds United fans on Twitter have urged Andrea Radrizzani to appoint Pep Clotet as the club’s new manager.
Garry Monk handed in his shock resignation on Thursday after failing to reach an agreement with new sole owner Radrizzani over a contract extension.
Ex-Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has been installed as the bookmakers’ favourite to replace Monk, while there is also speculation that Claudio Ranieri will be approached for the vacant post.
Intriguingly, there is an overwhelming call on social media from Leeds supporters for the job to go not to Karanka but another Spaniard, Clotet.
He was Monk’s number two at Leeds this season and also held the assistant manager post when the 38-year-old was in charge at Swansea.
The idea of continuity appeals to thousands of Leeds fans, given the progress made by the team this season with Clotet on the backroom staff.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
@andrearadri Can we just give the job to Pep Clotet? The man has a football blog after all!! Thanks in advanced, keep Beattie too #lufc

@LUFC27 @andrearadri Actually, scrap that my 1st choice would be Pep and Beattie…if they can work with Orta. O’Leary and Poyet didn’t do bad when stepping up?

Pep Clotet looks like he could fit our new set up well with him being more of a coach than a manager #lufc

Next #lufc manager needs charisma to win over the fans or he’ll start on the back foot. Clotet for continuity. Or McCarthy for Yorks charm.

Barcelona-born Clotet, 40, has wide experience as both a manager and coach since ending his playing career as an amateur player in Spain.
His most senior managerial role was at Swedish club Halmstad, while he has also been in charge of the Malaga and Espanyol reserve teams.
