The Green factor

Kyle Bartley believes that Rob Green can be the secret weapon in Leeds United’s promotion bid.

The 37-year-old arrived at Elland Road in the summer to no fanfare after four yo-yo years with QPR.

With Leeds looking strong for a play-off place the experience- and ability- of Green will be essential with Bartley delighted to have the former England man behind him.

Greeny’s really come into his own in the last month or six weeks,” the on loan Swansea centre-back said after the win over Sheffield Wednesday. “He’s been a great voice and his experience has shone through. I think he’s proving how good he is.”

Green’s public image has never recovered from losing a simple goal to Clint Dempsey in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Despite that public humiliation he has found favour with managers ranging from Garry Monk to Harry Redknapp over the last half dozen years.

After back-to-back defeats from Huddersfield and Cardiff, Leeds look to have their play off hopes back on track with seven points from their last three outings.

Away days at Birmingham and Fulham will test Leeds play-off credentials to the full but with Green in form Bartley has reason to be confident of taking full points.
