Everton’s Director of Football, Steve Walsh, has spoken out about the return of Wayne Rooney to Goodison Park.

Despite intense speculation that the England skipper would move to China, Rooney has turned his back on offers close to £1m/week to follow Carlos Tevez and Oscar to the Chinese Super League.

Becoming the most capped England player of all time seems to be the only record that Rooney has still to achieve with an emotional return to Everton the most likely route to achieve that.

Picking up on an interview that Walsh did with Sky Sports News, the Liverpool Post report Walsh admitting that Everton would have to follow up the possibility of Rooney returning after 13 years at Old Trafford.

Ronald Koeman has been frustrated in his attempts to secure a big name signing but capturing Rooney would be a shot in the arm towards convincing other targets that Everton mean business.

While unable to compete with the financial offers on the table from China, the chance to continue his career in the front line and play in next year’s World Cup Finals must make a move to Everton top of Rooney’s summer wish list.
