According to reports from The Sun, incoming Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has urged the club to sign an English striker in January – with Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy and Tottenham Hotspur target Saido Berahino at the top of his list.
Hiddink was officially announced as the Blues’ interim manager for a second time this afternoon, although Steve Holland took charge of their Premier League clash with Sunderland.
The Sun claim the Dutchman wants to make his mark on the Chelsea squad by launching a January swoop for a homegrown frontman – with Leicester City record-breaker Jamie Vardy and Tottenham Hotspur target Saido Berahino at the top of his wishlist.

Technical director Michael Emenalo reportedly suggested the 28-year-old as a January target to Jose Mourinho only for his recommendation fell on deaf ears. Reports yesterday alleged the club could now turn their interest into something more substantial following the Portuguese’s sacking and The Sun would appear to agree.
Meanwhile, 22-year-old Berahino has been the subject of much speculation since his infamous Twitter bust-up with West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace during the final week of the summer transfer window.
Chelsea have been mooted as potential suitors on several occasions along with Manchester United, but many still view Tottenham Hotspur as the leading candidates to land the former England U21’s signature – having instigated the aforementioned social media fiasco with a series of failed bids during the summer.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has made no secret of his desire to sign another striker in January to serve as Harry Kane’s understudy and many expect the north London club to resultantly revive their interest in Berahino – although the fractured relationship between both clubs at board level could stand in the way of a deal.
