Bad news for Spurs moves Chelsea & Man United closer to signing PL prodigy

Berahino

According to reports from The Express, Chelsea and Manchester United have overtaken Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino – with the Baggies unwilling to do business with the north London club.

After netting 14 times in 38 appearances last season, the Burundi-born forward was subject to a series of bids from Spurs during the summer. But the two clubs couldn’t agree on the structure of the deal, leaving Berahino to infamously blast chairman Jeremy Peace on Twitter as the transfer window drew to a close.

Having netted just three times in the Premier League this term, Hawthorns boss Tony Pulis criticised the 22-year-old’s form last week, claiming he’s not been “anywhere near as good” as last season due to Spurs turning his head during the summer, and Mirror Football now claim that Peace will resultantly refuse to do business with Tottenham in January.

That “leaves the path clear for Chelsea and Manchester United” according to The Express, who have also taken an interest in the England U21 since the end of last season. They were linked as recently as last month, with both clubs expected to be on the lookout for added firepower in the coming transfer window

Berahino’s home-grown status and versatility are both huge selling points and the Baggies appear more open to cashing in if Tottenham aren’t involved.
