According to reports from ESPN, recently sacked Chelsea gaffer Jose Mourinho is eyeing Manchester United as his next job in management.

The Portuguese was abruptly relieved of his duties on Thursday, after a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Monday night left the Blues 16th in the Premier League table and just a point above the relegation zone, and ESPN claim sources close to Mourinho have informed them that he’s now eyeing Louis van Gaal’s throne at Manchester United. The report coincides with a statement from the 52-year-old’s representatives, claiming he intends to continue living in London and won’t be taking a sabbatical.

Disillusionment towards the Dutchman’s rule over at Old Trafford have grown drastically since the Red Devils were eliminated from the Champions League by Wolfsburg earlier this month, with recent reports suggesting the Red Devils have ‘greatly accelerated‘ their efforts to replace him with Pep Guardiola – who is expected to reveal plans to step down as Bayern Munich manager either tomorrow or Monday.

With Chelsea and Manchester City also in the mix to appoint the Spaniard next summer, Mourinho would represent an ideal alternative as one of the best in the business with a proven Premier League record. Not everybody is so convinced by the idea, however. United legend Bobby Charlton said in 2012 that ‘the Special One’ would not be the right fit for the Carrington outfit.
