Jorginho

According to reports from Calcio Mercato, Napoli are ready to offer in-demand midfielder Jorginho a new contract at Stadio San Paolo.

The 23 year-old rose to acclaim at former club Hellas Verona, playing a pivotal role in their 2012/13 promotion from Serie B and bagging seven goals in 18 appearances the following season – until being prized away by Napoli in January 2014.

The deep-lying midfielder is rated as one of Serie A’s most exciting prospects and his recent form – averaging an impressive 1.9 tackles, 2 interceptions and 1.2 created chances per match this term – has seen him linked with Arsenal, Liverpool, Southampton and Manchester United over the last few weeks.

Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, has already discussed a potential offer from the Emirates outfit after Gunners scout Tony Banfield was spotted in the stands as Napoli drew with Genoa last weekend.

But knowing interest in their £22million-rated midfielder is growing – and fearing it could further escalate next summer should he make Italy’s squad for Euro 2016 – Calcio Mercato report that the Naples outfit are ready to offer Jorginho a new contract.

President Aurelio De Laurentiis appears to be the driving force behind extending the Brazilian-born playmaker’s terms, but manager Maurizio Sarri will play an equally important role in convincing Jorginho his future lies with the Serie A side. His current deal expires in 2018.
