According to reports from The Metro, Jorginho’s agent has openly discussed rumours linking the Napoli midfielder with a January move to Arsenal.
The 23 year-old rose to acclaim at former club Hellas Verona, playing a pivotal role in their 2012/13 promotion from Serie B and bagging seven goals in 18 appearances the following season – until being prized away by Napoli in January 2014.
The deep-lying midfielder is rated as one of Serie A’s most exciting prospects and his recent form – averaging an impressive 1.9 tackles, 2 interceptions and 1.2 created chances per match this term – has attracted plenty of Premier League interest in recent weeks.
Indeed, Liverpool and Southampton have already reportedly ‘made approaches‘ to sign the Brazilian-born playmaker, whilst Manchester United have been tracking his progress since the start of the season. Jorginho was recommended to them by the same scout who helped bring Matteo Darmian to Old Trafford during the summer.
But Arsenal are the latest club to be linked with Jorginho after scout Tony Banfied was spotted running the rule over the £22million-rated midfielder during a scoreless draw with Genoa on Saturday, and agent Joao Santos has now given his opinions on the Gunners’ reported interest.
As quoted by The Metro, he told Radio CRC; “I don’t know if the Arsenal scouts were in Genoa for Jorginho. I’m not surprised that the player is doing very well – especially in light of the change of coach – and has top clubs interested in him.
“One of the head scouts of Arsenal is well-known, and so I know he was at Marassi for the Napoli match. Right now we’re more thinking about Jorginho at Napoli than the transfer market.
“I’m in Brazil, and when I’m back we can discuss my client’s contract. The priority is getting a call-up for the Italy national team, then there’s the January transfer market. If Napoli receive an irrefutable offer for Jorginho in January then it’s normal that we’d make our assessments.”
