According to reports from The Express this morning, Manchester United have joined the race to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho when the transfer window reopens in January.
The 23 year-old rose to acclaim at former club Hellas Verona, playing a pivotal role in their 2012/13 promotion from Serie B. He bagged seven goals in 18 appearances in the following campaign as Verona honed in on a shock top half finish but was prized away by the Naples outfit mid-season.
Last week, it was revealed that Liverpool and Southampton have both ‘made approaches‘ to sign the Brazilian midfielder, with the Reds particularly keen on a January swoop to kick-start Jurgen Klopp’s revolution at Anfield.
But according to The Express, who cite Italian publication CalcioMercato, Manchester United are also targeting Jorginho along with Ligue 1 champions PSG.
They claim Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal has been tracking the South American playmaker since the start of the season after being alerted to his potential by the same scouts who helped bring Italy international Matteo Darmian to Old Trafford this summer.
Jorginho is allegedly valued by Napoli at between £15million and £22million – but with his contract not set to expire until 2018, they’re no under immediate obligation to sell in January.
