According to reports from The Metro yesterday afternoon, Liverpool are targeting in-demand Lazio midfielder Lucas Biglia.

The 29 year-old has made 55 Serie A appearances since moving to Stadio Olympico from Anderlecht in summer 2013 and also featured prominently for Argentina at last summer’s World Cup – starting in the tournament’s final as Albiceleste lost 1-0 to Germany.

Manchester United have been mooted as potential suitors of the defensive midfielder for some time and were linked once again last month, amid claims an ongoing contract dispute could see him leave the Italian capital outfit during the January transfer window.

But according to The Metro, who cite Spanish publication Fichajes, any interest the Red Devils have in Biglia is now rivaled by three major clubs – Liverpool, Real Madrid and Valencia.

Neither The Metro or Fichajes are particularly reliable sources but claims of Liverpool’s interest have been corroborated by reports from the Italian press, according to Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre – see 1806.

Lazio are clearly reluctant to see Biglia leave, however, with team-mate Danilo Cataldi recently describing him as ‘irreplaceable‘.
