According to reports from The Express this morning, Manchester United could launch a bid for Lucas Biglia in January after the midfielder rejected a contract offer from current club Lazio.
The 29 year-old has made 53 Serie A appearances since moving to Stadio Olympico from Anderlecht in summer 2013 and also featured prominently for Argentina at last summer’s World Cup – starting in the tournament’s final as Albiceleste lost 1-0 to Germany.
Manchester United have been linked with the defensive midfielder for some time and despite signing likeminded enforcers Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger during the summer transfer window, The Express claim he’s still on the Old Trafford radar.
The British newspaper – citing reports from Italian publication CalcioMercato – also allege the Red Devils could launch a bid for Biglia once the transfer window opens in January, amid a contract dispute with his current employers.
The South American is seeking a £2.2million per-year salary but the Italian capital outfit offered him just £1.7million per-year, which the player has since rejected.
With his contract set to expire in 2017, The Express claim Lazio could be forced to sell the £17.7million-rated midfielder in the new year.
