According to reports from Sky Sports this afternoon, Manchester United target Neymar has vowed to extend his Barcelona contract past 2018.
The 23 year-old forward, who bagged 39 goals in 51 appearances last season to help fire the Nou Camp outfit to a La Liga, Champions League and Copa del Rey treble, was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer and his father has since confirmed that the Red Devils made a formal bid to sign him.
He’s still believed to be a long-term target of the Old Trafford outfit, who were allegedly prepared to meet his £130million release clause during the transfer window, and Barcelona have resultantly been attempting to tie the Brazil international down to a new contract since the start of the season – with his current deal set to expire in 2018.
Sporting director Roberto Fernandez declared earlier this month that Neymar would “spend the rest of his life at Barcelona,” and the 5 foot 9 attacker’s recent comments appear to corroborate that claim.
Last week, the South American insisted that he intends to sign a new deal and according to Sky Sports he has reiterated that message once again – asking the club’s fans to remain calm and vowing to eventually put pen to paper. He told French outlet beIN Sports; “The renewal is underway. I have many years of contract here and I’ll sign. Calm. The fans have to be calm.”
