Goalkeeper - Victor Valdes

According to reports from Mirror Football this morning, Chelsea could look to resolve their goalkeeping crisis by launching a bid for Manchester United outcast Victor Valdes in January.

Blues No.1 Thibaut Courtois went under the knife last Thursday after tearing the meniscus in his right knee during a training session and manager Jose Mourinho has revealed he’ll be out of action for “quite a long time” – potentially over three months.

Summer signing Asmir Begovic has attempted to fill the Belgium international’s void twice already this season – whilst Courtois served a suspension against Manchester City in August and during a defeat to Everton last Saturday – but has already conceded six times.

And according to Mirror Football, who cite reports from Italian publication CalcioMercato, the Premier League champions could look to rectify the situation with a shock swoop for Manchester United’s Victor Valdes in January.

He was surprisingly included in the Red Devils registered Premier League squad for the season after a late summer move to Besiktas fell through. But Louis van Gaal has made his intentions to sell the former Barcelona star well-known, allegedly due to him refusing to represent United’s U21 side last season.

The failed move to the Turkish top flight would have been a free transfer – but United are unlikely to strengthen their divisional rivals without due compensation.
