Lavezzi

According to reports from Mirror Football this morning, Liverpool have made PSG ace Ezequiel Lavezzi their ‘primary transfer target’.

The 43-cap international, who started for Argentina in last summer’s World Cup final against Germany, has bagged 33 goals in 139 appearances for the Parisians, helping fire them to three consecutive Ligue 1 titles.

But his game-time has continually declined over the last few years, receiving just 19 starts in Ligue 1 last term, and the £44million arrival of former Manchester United star Angel Di Maria during the summer has essentially left the 30 year-old surplus to requirements. This season, he’s made only two league starts from a possible eight.

Earlier this week, The Express claimed Arsenal, Inter Milan, Liverpool and Valencia were all interested in signing the winger-forward during the summer and that he’s still a target of both Premier League clubs. Similarly, Lavezzi is reportedly open to leaving Parc de Princes in January – providing he receives a ‘big’ offer from a European club.

Perhaps enacting upon that news, Mirror Football – citing Italian publication Calcio Mercato – claim the veteran attacker, famed for his lightening pace and relentless work ethic, is now the Reds’ ‘primary transfer target’.

However, they report on the premise that Lavezzi will quit PSG at the end of the season rather than in the new year, when his four-year contract will have officially expired.

Premier League sides are allowed to discuss pre-contract terms with players from foreign clubs after the close of the January transfer window.

LFC have to stop signing players we don’t need. We have in abundance right sided attacking midfielders. Another one is not conducive to squad efficiency, moral or good business sense. We have good young players out on loan and already at the club which should be utilised more, if we can’t secure a truly world class attacker, then we should stick with what we have. In my view we need a commanding keeper and/or central defender to partner Skirtl. As a club we now have to get used to the fact that we don’t have the pulling power to secure real world class talent, we have to try and identify real potential, [as seems the current plan], and stick with it. The players we have out on loan around the world, [and Birmingham], seem to be progressing well, that’s our future. I also feel Klopp wouldn’t like this so much.
