According to reports from The Metro yesterday evening, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ‘committed’ to bringing Real Madrid star Isco to the Emirates.
The 23 year-old has registered 113 appearances across all competitions for Los Blancos since arriving at the Bernabeu in summer 2013, netting 17 times and helping them claim the 2014 Champions League title in the process.
But his place in the starting Xi has often been dependent upon the fitness of Real Madrid’s more coveted names, which is believed to have caused friction between the Spaniard and former manager Carlo Ancelotti last season.
Replacement gaffer Rafa Benitez has issued Isco five La Liga starts from a possible six this term. But according to The Metro, who cite Spanish publication Fichajes, that’s not waned Arsenal’s interest in the Spain international.
Likewise, Mirror Football, summarising reports from Spanish publication Sport, claimed earlier this month that Manchester City are also keen on signing the midfielder.
Isco was at the heart of the Malaga side that reached the Champions League’s quarter-finals under Manuel Pellegrini in 2013. He also claimed Europe’s prestigious Golden Boy award under the Chilean the year previous.
However, The Metro speculate any deal will likely have to wait until after next summer’s European Championships. The playmaking midfielder allegedly views impressing at Real Madrid as his best chance of making Spain’s 23-man squad for the tournament.
