According to reports from The Express this morning, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made contact with Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema regarding a potential summer move to the Emirates.
The 27 year-old boasts 133 goals in 281 appearances for the Bernabeu outfit, helping them claim a La Liga title, a Champions League title and two Copa del Reys since arriving in the Spanish capital from Lyon in summer 2009.
But the recent appointment of Rafa Benitez has put the France international’s Bernabeu career in doubt, with the former Liverpool and Chelsea boss intending to utilise three-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo as a centre-forward next season.
Manchester United were linked to the 6 foot 2 striker last month and The Express claim he could be brought in as a replacement for Robin van Persie – who is currently in talks with Fenerbahce – whilst Arsene Wenger refused to rule out a summer bid back in May.
On Monday came rumours of an opening an £18million offer from the Emirates outfit, and The Express now report that the Gunners gaffer has made contact with the former Lyon star.
Citing Spanish radio station Cope, they claim Wenger has personally called up Benzema to discuss a move to north London.
With three years remaining on his contract, however, Arsenal will have to pay a significant sum to land the striker this summer.
it would be better for arsene wenger to sign benzema and he should not rely on giroud
