According to reports from The Daily Mail yesterday evening, Manchester United could hijack Chelsea’s move for Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
The Potters No.1 is expected to leave the Britannia this summer with his contract now into its final 12 months. Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes recently admitted the 6 foot 6 shot stopper has probably held talks with interested parties already.
Chelsea have proved particularly proactive in pursuing the Bosnian international, launching a £6million bid on the same afternoon Petr Cech’s long-awaited move to Arsenal became official.
They’re widely expected to meet Stoke’s demands of £8millon plus a player on loan for next season within the next few days, with the 27 year-old reportedly happy to serve as Thibaut Courtois’ understudy at Stamford Bridge.
But Begovic has often been mooted as a potential successor to David De Gea at Manchester United, should the PFA Player of the Year nominee move to Real Madrid this summer.
And according to The Daily Mail, the Red Devils are about to ramp up their interest in the former Portsmouth man, hoping to hijack Chelsea’s ongoing negotiations with the Potters.
