Asmir Begovic

According to reports from The Daily Mail yesterday evening, Stoke City have admitted their in-demand No.1 Asmir Begovic is most likely discussing terms his Premier League suitors.

The Bosnian international has demonstrated a remarkable consistency during his five campaigns as the Potters’ first choice goalkeeper, in that time claiming the club’s Young Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards.

With his contract set to expire at the end of next season, Begovic has been linked with a summer move to a number of top Premier League clubs – namely Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, as This Is Futbol revealed last month.

It’s believed the Britannia outfit could be forced to sell for just £8million, as reported by This Is Futbol, making the 27 year-old a cut-price alternative to Chelsea’s Petr Cech – another known goalkeeping target of Arsenal and Man United.

And Stoke City chief executive Tony Scholes has now admitted Begovic is probably holding talks with some of his suitors already, suggesting a move away from the Staffordshire outfit has only become more likely since the end of the season.

Scholes said on Thursday; “We would very much like him to extend his contract, but I think Asmir has said himself that he is keeping his options open and seeing what might be available for him.

“If I’m speaking frankly, I don’t know whether or who he might be speaking to. That’s not accusing him of anything, it’s just saying that’s the reality,” he added.
