Jackson Martinez

According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday evening, Arsenal will sell three players to fund a move for FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez.

The Colombian international boasts a sensational haul of 92 goals in 132 appearances since signing for the Dragons in summer 2012 and has just come to the end of his most potent campaign to date, netting 32 times in all competitions.

As This Is Futbol revealed last month, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are all considered to be potential suitors of the 28 year-old, who has already confirmed his intentions to leave Estadio do Dragao in the coming transfer window.

Prior reports claimed the Gunners had already agreed terms with Martinez, with manager Arsene Wenger reportedly activating his £24.8million release clause – as reported by The Evening Standard.

But it appears the north Londoners will have to generate some funds before officially signing the former Chiapas front-man. According to Mirror Football, forwards Lukasz Podolski, Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell, who have all spent the last six months away from the Emirates on loan, will all be moved on for loose change.

The German international, however, has thrown an untimely spanner into the works. According to reports from BBC Sport, Podolski still sees a future for himself at the Emirates despite his disappointing loan spell at Inter Milan.

“They are a great club and I think I can help them. Things can always change, but if needs be I will remain at Arsenal next season,” said the 2014 World Cup winner.

“You can take experience from everywhere you play abroad, even if it was not my best year from a sporting perspective. But I still have many years ahead of me and a burning desire to play football.”
