Chelsea and Man City defensive target wants swift resolution over future

Toby Alderweireld

According to reports from Sky Sports, Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld wants to find a swift resolution over his future, with four Premier League outfits targeting the Belgium international.

The 6 foot 2 centre-back has just come to the end of an impressive season on loan at Southampton, helping Ronald Koeman’s side claim the second-healthiest goals conceded column in the division after eventual champions Chelsea.

The Saints have the option to acquire the 26 year-old permanently for £7million – but Atletico could exonerate that right for £3million, as reported by The Telegraph, which would then allow the Vincente Calderon outfit to sell at their preferred valuation of £14million.

As This Is Futbol revealed last week, Atletico have already offered Alderweireld to Chelsea, whilst Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly targeting the former Ajax star.

And according to Sky Sports, the 43-cap international wants his future decided sooner rather than later. “We will see what happens and I will make the right decision,” Alderweireld told Sky Sports. Watch the video interview here.

“The season is not over, after the last game I will know more and I hope a decision is going to be made quickly so I know where I am playing next year.”

It follows comments from the defender last month claiming he wants a full pre-season ahead of the 2015/16 campaign. “I’ve had a fantastic year at Southampton and I hope to know where my future is before pre-season starts because it’s two years in a row that I did a pre-season with a club and then on August 31 I left,” he said, as quoted by The Daily Star.

“So I hope this time I can do a pre-season with the club that I will be playing with and have a good year.”
