According to reports from The Express this afternoon, Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle to sign Porto striker Jackson Martinez.

The 28 year-old boasts an incredible haul of 92 goals in 132 appearances for the Dragons – including 32 goals this season – and has claimed three consecutive top scorer awards in the Primeira Liga.

Manchester United have been monitoring the Colombian international’s performances this season, with The Daily Mail revealing in April that Red Devils scouts watched the 6 foot 1 striker during Porto’s 3-1 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

He’s billed as a potential replacement for Robin van Persie, who could be on his way to Serie A this summer – according to reports from Football Italia.

But according to The Express, Arsenal have now jumped ahead of their Premier League rivals in the race to sign Martinez, who dons the moniker ‘Cha-Cha-Cha’ for his grace in the final third.

They source Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias, who claim a deal in principle has been agreed to bring the South American to the Emirates this summer.

That would likely require Arsenal activating his release clause, which stands at £25million.
