Danny Ings - £5million compensation

According to reports from BBC Sport this morning, Liverpool have signed Burnley striker Danny Ings, subject to a medical.

The 22 year-old showed great promise during his debut Premier League campaign, bagging eleven goals and four assists in 35 appearances despite representing a Turf Moor outfit who were relegated back to the Championship.

That impressive haul, in combination with Ings’ contract with the Lancashire outfit coming to an end, has generated widespread interest in the England U21 from the Premier League and yonder.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been mooted as potential suitors for some time, as reported by This Is Futbol, whilst Tottenham Hotspur put themselves in the mix last month with a £12million bid. Ings also flew to Spain to hold talks with David Moyes’ Real Sociedad in February, according to The Daily Star.

But it appears the Anfield outfit have now won the race for the former Bournemouth youngster’s signature. Although the transfer is agreed in principle, Liverpool and Burnley are yet to decide upon a price.

Due to Ings’ age, Sean Dyche’s side are entitled to a compensation fee when the striker officially leaves under the bosman rule on July 1st. It was previously believed to be around the £5million mark, but Tottenham’s recent bid could drive it up somewhat – as This Is Futbol revealed last month.

  • Spurs nut D says:

I honestly believe Spurs were not interested in Ings but bid on him to up his price . DL does not pay 12 million for a player he could get for 5-6 million . I know Ings always wanted looserpoo and would never have went to london so why bid on him . DL has done a job on liverpool because i think they are both interested in Benteke . DL saw this as a chance to up his price and try and take liverpool out of the Benteke bidding war . The difference with Benteke and Ings being Ings will go to a board to set his price if the two teams cannot agree a price . This will not happen with Benteke and it does not matter if Liverpool outbid us as we will put a strong case to him and we have the London thing . Sorry liverpool you get Ings we get Benteke . Look on the bright side you still have Balatelli .
