Aymen Abdennour

According to reports from The Metro this morning, the agent of defender Aymen Abdennour claims Monaco have held talks with Liverpool over a potential summer transfer.

The 25 year-old was in good form for Monaco last season, averaging 1.3 tackles, 2.2 interceptions and 2.4 successful aerial duels per match from his 18 Ligue 1 outings, and also boasts 33 caps for Tunisia.

The French outfit are holding a bit of a firesale at the moment in an effort to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations – with Geoffrey Kondogbia joining Inter Milan for £25million earlier this week and rumours of their intentions to cash in on Joao Moutinho – and Abdennour could be the next in line for an abrupt departure.

Liverpool were reported to have entered the race for the alleged Arsenal and Bayern Munich target yesterday, and quotes from his agent that have emerged this morning appear to back up those claims.

Abdennour’s representative Abdelkader Jilani told Foot Mercato: “There are clubs who have approached us and who will enter into contact with Monaco. “There is AC Milan, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Liverpool. Juventus, they’ve already seen Monaco.

“I don’t think that Monaco will prevent Abdennour from leaving,” he added.

London24, who also reported on the story from Foot Mercato, rate the defender at £10million.
