Ilkay Gundogan

According to reports from London24 this morning, in-demand Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan could yet extend his contract with the Bundesliga outfit.

The German international rejected the opportunity to pen extended terms earlier this season, generating interest from a number of top European clubs – including Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United, as This Is Futbol revealed in April.

Previously, Dortmund were widely expected to cash in on the 24 year-old rather than run the risk of losing him for free in a year’s time, with the Westfalen outfit reportedly willing to ‘listen to offers‘.

But Barcelona and Bayern Munich both dropped out of the race to sign Gundogan earlier this month due to his wage demands, and Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke has since claimed the midfielder could decide to sign a new deal with talks still ongoing.

Gundogan’s agent and brother Ilhan Gundogan has now reiterated those claims, telling German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung; “This is clearly an option again. There are several things in favour of Ilkay finding his old level and doing that in a familiar, comfortable environment.”
