According to reports from The Independent yesterday afternoon, Monaco are targeting Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho as a replacement for now-Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia.
The France international departed for the San Siro in a £25million deal earlier this week, despite known interest from Manchester United and rumours of ongoing talks with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
And the Ligue 1 champions have now turned to William Carvalho – also an alleged target of Arsenal and Manchester United – as Kondogbia’s replacement.
The Portugal international, currently representing his country at the U21 European Championships, is widely regarded as one of the most promising holding midfielders in Europe, measuring in at 6 foot 2, weighing in excess of 14 stone and famed for his simple-yet-effective playbreaking style.
United boss Louis van Gaal allegedly requested weekly reports on the 23 year-old earlier this season, whilst The Sun claim the Guners have already tabled a £28.5million bid – which could rise to £37million with add-ons – following their failed deadline day swoop last summer.
But Monaco’s interest could prove problematic for the Premier League duo. They view Carvalho as a direct replacement for Kondogbia and according to The Independent are preparing an initial €20million bid.
Sporting, however, remain adamant any suitor must pay the beastly midfielder’s £37million release clause.
it will be a good signing
