Monaco keen to cash in on long-term Arsenal and Man United target

Moutinho

According to reports from The Daily Star this afternoon, Monaco are looking to offload playmaking midfielder Joao Moutinho during the summer transfer window.

The Portugal midfielder was often admired by Premier League clubs during his FC Porto days, playing an intrinsic role in the Dragons claiming three consecutive Primeira Liga crowns and the 2011 Europa League title, and has continued to impress since joining the Ligue 1 outfit for €25million in summer 2013.

This season he’s claimed four goals and six assists in 37 league outings, whilst averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.8 interceptions and 1.9 created chances per match.

But now 28 years of age, Monaco intend on trading in Moutinho for a younger model, whilst also balancing the books following their prolific spending over the last few years.

According to The Star, Russian outfit Zenit are considering a bid for the £28million-rated playmaker, but news of Moutinho’s availability could rekindle interest from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
