According to reports from The Express yesterday evening, PSG have dropped out of the race to sign PSV sensation Memphis Depay this summer.
The Netherlands international has been in fantastic form since his nomination for the Best Young Player award at last summer’s World Cup, going on to net 27 times in 38 appearances across all competitions.
That includes 21 goals in the Eredivisie, which has fired the winger-forward to the top of the division’s scoring charts and the Eindhoven outfit to their first Dutch title since 2008.
Manager Phillip Cocu has already confirmed the 21 year-old will move abroad this summer – as This Is Futbol reported last month – and up until now, it’s been a three-horse race between Liverpool, Manchester United and PSG for his services – as This Is Futbol revealed last weekend.
But according to The Express, the Ligue 1 champions have now cooled their interest in Depay, following reports from French publication L’Equipe claiming they won’t be able to afford his £25million valuation alongside their other planned signings – which includes Chelsea and Man United target Paul Pogba – whilst complying with Financial Fair Play regulations.
The news will be of particular joy for Liverpool. As This Is Futbol revealed last weekend, they’re believed to be a step ahead of the Red Devils in the race for Depay’s signature.
