Cesc Fabregas

The PFA Team of the Year was announced at the end of last month and frankly, we’re a little disappointed here at This Is Futbol.

Although David De Gea, Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, John Terry, Ryan Bertrand, Alexis Sanchez, Philippe Coutinho, Nemanja Matic, Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Harry Kane assemble a rather impressive Xi, we feel the PFA Team of the Year has been nowhere near as diverse as one would expect for a division considered to be the most competitive top flight in world football.

There’s plenty of top-performing starts that surprisingly missed out, and some rather ordinary performers that were shockingly included.

So in homage to those that were unfairly overlooked and deserve some more appreciation, This Is Futbol have created an Alternative Team of the Season with one golden rule – you’re only allowed in if you didn’t make the official XI.

So guess which Chelsea, Arsenal, Southampton, Swansea, Man City and Man United stars made our line-up!

Good team, with one exception: Phil Jones?? Outrageous!

Would have considered Fonte and perhaps Winston Reid instead. Also Aguero definitely deserved to get in the TOTY over that fraud Harry Kane (a.k.a. the new Andy Johnson)

Was quite surprised Ivanovic got into the TOTY over Clyne and Cahill over Fonte, I don’t think either of them have been the best players in their positions over the course of the season. Azpi and Fabregas are however criminal omissions.

Good shout on David Silva as well – despite his very obvious talent he’s somehow become a bit underrated, I guess everyone’s used to how excellent he is. Arguably the best creative player in the league.

Wasn’t too sure about Carrick either. He’s been more than good enough when he’s played but he’s missed so much of the season (although you did address that) that I might have gone for a Schneiderlin/Ki/Cambiasso instead.
