According to reports from The Metro this morning, Liverpool are plotting a £10million bid for PSG midfielder Yohan Cabaye, who they view as a potential successor to Steven Gerrard.
The France international knows the Premier League well; he spent two-and-a-half seasons at Newcastle United, bagging 18 goals and 15 assists in 93 appearances and almost firing them to Champions League qualification during the 2011/12 campaign.
The playmaking midfielder left for Parc de Princes in January 2014, at a cost of £19million. But he’s struggled to make an impact on first team affairs in the French capital, this season managing just 11 starts in Ligue 1.
talkSPORT mooted both Liverpool and Arsenal as potential suitors earlier this week, as the 29 year-old revealed he could leave the French champions this summer.
Speaking to French TV show Canal Football Club, he said; “It is a distinct moment in my career. I have never been through this before. One has to accept it but also try to change it. It is super important for me, I want to play at Euro 2016.
“I need to speak to the [France] boss [Deschamps] and my representatives to see what is best for me,” he added.
And The Metro now claim Liverpool view the £10million-rated midfielder as a potential replacement for Steven Gerrard. After 17 seasons in the Reds’ first team, he’ll be moving to MLS side LA Galaxy this summer on a free transfer.
