According to reports from The Metro yesterday afternoon, Liverpool have ‘agreed terms’ with Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya ahead of a summer move to Anfield.
The former Spain U21 exploded onto the La Liga scene with a sensational goal against Malaga in 2013, but he’s totaled just 66 appearances for the Catalans in the space of five seasons, instead spending much of his time with the Barcelona B squad.
That includes just six starts in the Spanish top flight this season despite the future of first choice No.2 Dani Alves still awaiting resolution, with his contract verging upon expiration – as This Is Futbol revealed last month.
Back in December, the 24 year-old’s agent claimed Montoya was ‘100% committed’ to leaving Barcelona – as reported by Mirror Football – and it appears he’s now agreed a move to Liverpool.
The Reds need a replacement for bosman-bound veteran Glen Johnson, who has admitted he expects to leave Merseyside this summer – as reported by The Metro last week – whilst deputy right-back Javier Manquillo could have his two-term loan from Atletico Madrid cut short after failing to impress in his first season.
