According to reports from The Metro this morning, Liverpool are lining up Arsenal’s Theo Walcott as a potential alternative to Barcelona star Pedro – if they miss out on the Spain international to the north London club.

As This Is Futbol revealed earlier this month, both Premier League sides are keen to take advantage of the ambiguity surrounding the 27 year-old’s future.

He’s been part of the Nou Camp tapestry for some time, claiming four La Liga titles, two Champions League titles and 97 goals in 311 appearances with the Catalan giants – whilst lifting the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship with Spain – but his game time has been slashed since the £75million arrival of Luis Suarez last summer, going on to make just 13 starts in La Liga.

With just a year remaining on his current contract, the winger-forward is widely expected to leave in the coming transfer window. But it appears Liverpool will now step aside and let Arsenal sign the 27 year-old, if it means they can land Theo Walcott instead.

He too has slumped down the pecking order due to summer signings – managing just 307 minutes’ worth of Premier League action this term following the arrivals of Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez. But as This Is Futbol revealed earlier this month, it’s believed negotiations over an extended Emirates contract are currently underway.
