According to reports from talkSPORT this morning, Roma are hoping to conclude a deal for Augsburg full-back Abdul Rahman Baba by the end of the week.

The 20 year-old has just come to the end of a sensational campaign with the SGL arena outfit, bagging four assists in 31 appearances whilst averaging the second-most tackles per match (3.5) of any player in the division, which has lead The Evening Standard to describe him as ‘the best left-back in the Bundesliga last season’.

That’s seen the Ghana international linked to a host of major clubs. In May, he was linked with Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid. In June, he was allegedly at the centre of a bidding war between Arsenal and Chelsea, and earlier this month Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan and Roma all entered the race for his signature.

Chelsea and Arsenal are believed to be particularly keen on a deal, amid rumours back-up No.3s Filipe Luis and Nacho Monreal could both be returning to Spain this summer.

But reports last week claimed Abdul Rahman Baba had rejected a contract offer from the Premier League champions due to fears over his playing time, and according to talkSPORT he’s now on the verge of agreeing a move to Roma instead.

They claim club officials are already in Germany to thrash out a deal, hoping it can be concluded by the end of the week.
