According to reports from The Express yesterday afternoon, Augsburg defender Abdul Rahman Baba has snubbed a contract offer from Chelsea worth £1.2million per year.

The 20 year-old has just come to the end of a sensational campaign with the SGL arena outfit, bagging four assists in 31 appearances whilst averaging the second-most tackles per match (3.5) of any player in the division, which has lead The Evening Standard to describe him as ‘the best left-back in the Bundesliga last season’.

It’s also generated plenty of rumours regarding Abdul Rahman Baba’s future with the German outfit. In June came reports of a bidding war between Arsenal and Chelsea, whilst Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Roma were mooted as potential suitors last week. He was also linked to Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid in May.

According to The Express, who cite Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Blues have sought to agree personal terms with the Ghana international after launching an £10.5million bid – despite it falling some way short of Augsburg’s £18million valuation.

But Abdul Rahman Baba has already rejected it, with his sights firmly set on joining Roma this summer. The Serie A runners-up have offered him £1.5million per-year and greater assurances over first team football.
