According to reports from Goal.com this afternoon, Claudio Marchisio has signed a five-year contract extension at Juventus, ending Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United’s hopes of signing the midfielder this summer.
The Italy international is a product of the Turin outfit’s academy, originally joining the club in 1993 and going on to make 308 appearances in all competitions since his debut in 2006. In that time he’s lifted four consecutive Serie A titles and made it to the 2015 Champions League final.
The 29 year-old’s prior deal was set to expire at the end of 2016, a situation which saw him linked to three of the Premier League’s biggest clubs last month – namely, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.
The reports followed the arrival of bosman signing Sami Khedira from Real Madrid and quotes from the versatile midfielder’s agent and father Stefano Marchisio, who claimed to have received several enquires from the English top flight and the Bundesliga.
Now, however, Marchisio has put speculation to bed by signing a new five year contract with the Old Lady. Reflecting on his new deal, the Azzurri star said; “It’s a feeling that sits alongside my first training session in 1993. I’m delighted to wear the shirt I’ve always wanted. Finding the motivation to keep giving even more is what matters most.”
