Lampard, Ferdinand, Benayoun & more: A team of Premier League freebies

|

Midfielder – Frank Lampard:

Probably the most talked about player who will be released in the summer: Frank Lampard is one of the best players in Premier League history and his goalscoring record from midfield stands alone as the best. Roman Abramovich and Chelsea not giving the midfield magician that is Frank Lampard another contract is preposterous.

One of Abramovich’s worst decisions in charge of Chelsea (and there’s been a few) will mean great news for another club who will be able to pick up the midfielder who has scored 162 goals in the English top division.

Midfielder – Andrey Arshavin:

The highlight of the 31-year-old Russian’s career will always be that night at Anfield and that will probably be what he is remembered for. What he may not be remembered for, however, is how he used to cut in from the left flank and terrorise the best right-backs in the world.

Forget the fact that for the last 2 or 3 seasons he has been rubbish. Arshavin made a mark at club level with Arsenal and international level with Russia at Euro 2008. Will anyone offer him a contract in the hope of him recapturing some of the form he showed in his early days at Arsenal? Personally, I wouldn’t, but that doesn’t mean anyone else won’t.

Midfielder – Yossi Benayoun:

Yossi Benayoun has played for West Ham, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. This time next year I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there were a name of another big English club at the end of that list.

A successful loan spell with Arsenal in the 2011/12 season showed Benayoun still has it in him to play at a high level. He’s played in England for a while and obviously likes the culture. Who knows where Yossi will be playing his football next season? All I know is it will probably be in England.

Midfielder – Chris Brunt:

When looking through my source (transfermarkt.co.uk) for this article, Chris Brunt, popped up. This is someone I definetly didn’t expect to be on the list for expiring contracts. His consistency has been brilliant over the years for West Brom and you can always count on the Northern Irishman for an 8/10 performance. He is a player I am sure will be offered a contract at a good team for next season.

Midfielder- Florent Malouda

Another player who had so much promise as a Premier League player. Florent Malouda’s talent has been wasted Chelsea some might say. Although both Premier League and Champions League winner medals sit in his trophy cabinet. He will probably seek a return to his native France in the summer.

Forward – Franco Di Santo:

Although Franco Di Santo has only scored 5 league goals this season, I believe if he were to be at a team where more goalscoring opportunities were created he could very well get into double figures.

Forward – Carlton Cole:

4 Goals is all Carlton Cole could manage this season. He is very similar to Emile Heskey in his style of play, as for Cole to perform well does not necessarily require goals. He brings a lot more to a team then meets the eye. His hold up play is excellent and is also an asset defensively. Unfortunately for Cole I think his low goal scoring tally will make it hard for him to find a club for next season.
