Tottenham Hotspur left wing-back Ryan Sessegnon is now making a gradual return from his recent injury issue.

This has been suggested by the reliable Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold who has been speaking on his YouTube channel about the 22-year-old defender amid the ongoing issues with Ben Davies and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Sessegnon has been competing against one of the game’s veteran wing-backs this season in Ivan Perisic and has managed to rack up 12 appearances in the Premier League and three in the Champions League (via Transfermarkt).

Starting with the club's £60m summer signing, which of these players could Richarlison be facing?

However, his last outing came in the Carabao Cup defeat against Nottingham Forest in what was certainly a night to forget for the defender having put in a poor display and then picked up an injury issue.

Conte described the wing-back’s issue as minor and kept him out of the game against Leeds United and Gold believes he is now nearing a return ahead of the Premier League restart:

(5:30) “I know Sess is back working on the grass but not quite back fully with the squad yet or certainly, that was the case as of yesterday [Tuesday] when I was asking around.

“So I think since then some pics have shown him out on the grass but I think he’s not quite back with the full squad yet.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We’d expect everyone at Spurs to be hoping Sessegnon can return as quickly as possible given Perisic has been away on this international break with Croatia at the World Cup.

Is Sessegnon good enough for Spurs?

And the 33-year-old has been racking up the minutes for his nation in which he has been shining having bagged two assists against Canada and scoring against Japan (via Transfermarkt).

Although there is still over two weeks until the Premier League restarts, Conte would have likely been hoping to avoid needing Perisic to return straight into the action after a testing few weeks away at the World Cup.

But this has pretty much been the story of Sessegnon’s career at Spurs and we think, with Destiny Udogie joining next summer, it is a huge second half of the campaign for the 22-year-old to really put a claim in for the starting spot at Spurs.
