Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is now expected to miss around three weeks of football following his injury issue picked up in Qatar.

This update has been shared by the reliable Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold, who has been discussing the Uruguayan’s fitness latest on his YouTube channel.

As Bentancur’s side were sent home in their final game against Ghana, Bentancur was forced off inside the first half after sustaining an injury.

Tottenham-Hotspur's-Richarlison-reacts

Starting with the club's £60m summer signing, which of these players could Richarlison be facing?

It is believed the 25-year-old had sustained a small tear to an adductor muscle and he has already returned to London to begin his rehabilitation ahead of the restart of the Premier League campaign.

And it has now been suggested he could return in time for the game against Aston Villa on New Year’s Day given he is suspended for the game against Brentford on Boxing Day:

“Rodrigo Bentancur, we know he picked up that injury at the World Cup. From reports in Uruguay early yesterday [Tuesday],  they were saying it’s a five-millimetre tear of his adductor muscle in his right leg, which, apparently they say he’s already back in London recovering from that.

“With that, the timeframe seems to be, the rough timeframe seems to be three to four weeks, which, actually in a weird way for Spurs works out quite nicely, as nicely as an injury can be because he’s suspended for Brentford anyway, on Boxing Day so his next match would be Aston Villa at home on New Year’s Day. And the word in Uruguay seems to be that he could be back for that.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

Spurs fans will have everything crossed in the hope Bentancur is able to return for that clash against Villa given just how impressive he has been this season.

Is Bentancur Tottenham's best midfielder?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The 25-year-old has been an integral member of Antonio Conte’s side this season and he has – perhaps surprisingly – popped up with some huge goals already this season (via Transfermarkt).

And throughout the World Cup, despite Uruguay’s struggles, the Spurs man shone at both ends of the pitch, with his defensive ability there for all to see but he also surprised a few by almost scoring what would’ve been a goal of the tournament contender.

Having seen Bentancur forced off in Qatar, there will have been some fear among Spurs fans, but it seems he may have gotten off lightly with the way the schedule has panned out.
