The host of the YouTube channel ‘WeAreTottenhamTV’ has stated that he doesn’t ‘see a need’ for Tottenham Hotspur to sign LOSC Lille forward, Jonathan David.

Calciomercato have reported that Spurs are tracking the Canadian striker, with Arsenal also interested.

David featured in all three of Canada’s World Cup matches, starting on two occasions. However, the 22-year-old wasn’t able to register a goal at the tournament.

When discussing the Lille man’s performance at the World Cup, the host stated he was ‘disappointed’ with David. However, he did also say that he would still ‘welcome’ him at the club.

He stated (4:30), “In the World Cup, I was really disappointed with him to be honest. Even when they were playing that full-throttle gung-ho approach he was kind of letting the team down, especially in the first game, when they had their best game of the tournament. But having said that, he is a very good player and I would welcome him through the door but I just don’t see a need for him and really a direct need for someone like Jonathan David right now, so I don’t really see this one being a goer.”

TIF’s view on ‘WeAreTottenhamTV’s’ comments…

We believe that David would be a strange signing to make from a Tottenham perspective, they already have plenty of attacking options.

The Canadian typically tends to operate down the middle as a striker. Spurs already have Harry Kane, Richarlison and Heung-min Son, who can all operate in that position.

There’s no doubt that David is a hot property and one to watch. He’s netted nine goals in Ligue 1 this season and scored 15 times in the previous season.

When you look at that goal return, it would simply be a waste for David to be sat on the bench at Spurs. It would be incredibly difficult for him to get in ahead of Harry Kane.

The Englishman has 12 to his name in the Premier League this season and is Tottenham’s third all-time top goalscorer.

A team like Arsenal could do with a striker like David. Gabriel Jesus has undergone surgery and a timescale has not yet been given by the Gunners. Perhaps they may turn their attention to the Canadian in January as a replacement in the meantime.
