Frank McAvennie has said that Harry Kane must become selfish and win trophies amid his contract running down at Tottenham Hotspur.
Kane is already a Spurs legend and is well on track to beat Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goal-scoring record and cement himself in the history of English football, but until that potential day, he has very little else to show off.
The 29-year-old has been at Tottenham since youth and earned his place in the side through various loan deals in the football league, he’s scored 261 goals in 408 games for the Lilywhites.
However, he’s yet to pick up a trophy of any kind for Spurs or England despite being a three-time Premier League and one-time World Cup top scorer.
The Englishman’s current £200k-per-week deal in north London expires in 2024 and with him continuously linked with a move away, McAvennie told Football Insider he has to be selfish in his career.
“I think he has been very loyal to Tottenham. I know he loves them but he has got to start thinking about himself.
“He is not the kind of player who should be finishing his career without winning anything. Even I could show him my medals,” McAvennie said.

Kane will find himself in a tough situation where he’ll have to choose between immortality at Spurs or league titles elsewhere with Antonio Conte’s side already adrift of the Premier League title race.
His personal achievements will live well in his memory but the thought of never holding a league or Champions League trophy will likely haunt him forever.
