Journalist Liam Kennedy has praised Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes for the stunning role he played during the build-up to one of his team’s goals.
The Magpies were finally back in Premier League action after the break for the winter World Cup in Qatar as they travelled away from home to face Leicester City.
Eddie Howe’s men got off to a perfect start as Joelinton was fouled in the box by Daniel Amartey, allowing Chris Wood to net from the spot. And by the time seven minutes were even on the clock, Miguel Almiron had made it two for the Magpies.
In the build-up to that second goal, Guimaraes pulled off a ‘Maradona turn’ in the middle of the pitch to get away from his man before spreading the play with a fine pass. He then followed the attack up the field and was in place to play an inch-perfect assist for Almiron to run through on goal and score.
Stunned by the superb play from the Brazilian, Kennedy took to Twitter to say: “Shades of Maradona from Bruno Guimaraes in that second goal. A thing of beauty.”
