Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that despite Michail Antonio being set to be passed fit this evening, West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca will face a late fitness check.

The Italian picked up an ankle injury against Fulham in a recent friendly match after being challenged by former Hammer Issa Diop. Since then, he has been racing against time to get himself fit.

Unfortunately, however, it looks as though the club’s Premier League match away against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Boxing Day will come too soon.

Indeed, Ex explained as much in a new post shared on The West Ham Way Patreon page, stating that even if he has overcome the worst of his injury, his inability to train will probably see him ruled out.

He said: “Gianluca Scamacca suffered a swollen ankle against Fulham in the pre-season friendly. A late check will be done on him, although due to a lack of training, it is expected he will miss out, too. Antonio is expected to be fit and ready to lead the line.”

TIF Thoughts on Gianluca Scamacca and West Ham…

West Ham have struggled for consistency so far this season and spent Christmas Day just one point above the bottom three. The opposite has been the case for the Gunners, who are at the top of the league.

Facing such difficult opposition, David Moyes would have been hoping to have his best players available to him, and no player has scored more goals in all competitions for the club than Scamacca, who has six to his name.

Consequently, it’ll come as a big blow if the Italian isn’t fit to play, but at least Antonio looks to be fit amid some recent issues relating to his thigh that kept him from playing against Fulham in that friendly.
