Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has said that Manchester United are yet to enter direct talks with Cody Gakpo.

United have been heavily linked with a move for the Netherlands star who only enhanced his reputation at the World Cup.

He scored in all three of his nation’s group games, and as a result, the Red Devils may have to bring their plans forward.

Ex-Netherlands international Hans Kraay Jr. has recently said when speaking to ESPN that 23-year-old will almost certainly be playing in the Premier League come January.

However, Romano has now claimed that the Old Trafford outfit have still not entered negotiations with PSV.

Speaking on The United Stand YouTube channel, he said: “The situation right now is that Manchester United are still in conversations with the agents of Gakpo, so there are conversations ongoing.

“Manchester United have an excellent relationship with the agents, as it is the same agency of Erik ten Hag.

“The player would love to join Manchester United.

“He would be happy to accept.

“It’s on Man United now, because the price in the summer was €45-50m [with] add-ons included, so it was a potential package of €35-40m plus add-ons. Now it is different; now they want more than €50m.

I think they asked €70m to close around €60-65m, and so the price is different, and after investing big money on Antony, big money on Casemiro, big money on Lisandro [Martinez] in the summer and not having a plan to invest that kind of money in January… after the Ronaldo story, they have to do something in January.

“But as of today, there is still not a direct conversation with PSV.”

TIF Thoughts on Gakpo and United…

Do you want MUFC to sign Cody Gakpo this winter?

Yes

Yes

No

No

You would think the English giants are certain to act on their interest sooner rather than later given that Gakpo’s current employers are open to a sale.

Romano went on to discuss that Liverpool also have an interest in the forward dubbed ‘sensational’ by journalist Michael Bell.

With Jurgen Klopp now without Luis Diaz for the next three months, his plans too may be brought forward, and we think United would be as well to make their move as soon as possible.
