MailOnline journalist Mike Keegan has slammed Jermaine Jenas after his critical comments about Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

England’s World Cup dream came to an end over the weekend as France proved too much for Gareth Southgate, with goals from Aurelien Tchouameni and Olivier Giroud deciding the 2-1 win.

However, the Tottenham striker had the chance to take the game to extra-time but skied his penalty, having already beaten Hugo Lloris from the spot earlier on in the game.

After the game, former Spurs player Jenas claimed (via Twitter) that Wayne Rooney was a better player, and then said: “Finals and big games, I think, are a problem when it comes to what he’s [Kane] done in those moments.”

He later added: “I’ve not seen what he does on a weekly basis, in the big games.”

Keegan was evidently furious with the clip and took to Twitter to say: “Jermaine Jenas digging out Harry Kane is one of the worst things I’ve ever seen in football – and I’m an Oldham fan.”

TIF Thoughts on Harry Kane and Spurs…

Sadly for Kane, he is yet to win a major trophy and so there will always be questions about his career and his quality until he can put an end to his own hunt for silverware.

Even so, in a moment of such difficulty, it seems a little cruel of Jenas to pile in on the Englishman – especially as they are both Tottenham-affiliated players. And Kane didn’t even play that poorly against France, he just missed one penalty.

What’s more, Kane did also manage to become the England men’s joint-top goalscorer after levelling Rooney’s record of 53 during that game against France, so it’s not as if he has accomplished nothing with his career.

However, he perhaps needs to leave Spurs and join a club where he will be more likely to win a trophy if he is to become a true great. After all, Tottenham have not lifted anything of note since their League Cup triumph in 2008.
