Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on his YouTube Channel about Joao Felix’s transfer status and his agent’s relationship with Manchester United.

He joined the club back in 2019 from Benfica, costing around a fee of £113 million. However, it seems that his time in the Spanish capital could be coming to an end in the near future. Felix is ‘open’ to leaving the La Liga side in the January transfer window.

Romano stated (0:00), “We can confirm that Joao Felix is absolutely open to leaving Atletico Madrid in January. He’s prepared to leave. He wants to find something different and so the player wants to find a way to leave Atletico and try a new experience as soon as possible.”

His agent Jorge Mendes, has a great relationship with the French side, Paris Saint-Germain. He’s also had conversations with both Man United and Chelsea in the past.

Romano said (2:30), “Now his agent Jorge Mendes is exploring possibilities with club. So at the moment there are still negotiations with the Atletico parties agent is trying to find the solution with PSG the relationship is great with Chelsea and Man United he always had conversations so he’s been now allowed to explore the market, but this is still not something advanced and what we advanced before the end of the World Cup.”

TIF’s view on Romano’s comments…

We believe that Felix has failed to live up to the hype at Atletico Madrid. His number simply haven’t met the whopping £113 million price tag they signed him for.

Across three La Liga campaigns, Felix has 38 goal contributions from 94 matches. Whilst it’s not an awful return, it’s certainly not worth the amount that was spent on the Portuguese star.

Perhaps a move away will give Felix the chance to have a fresh start. He can operate in a few different positions, usually playing as a second striker, but if need be he can play on the left-wing or on his own as a centre-forward. Man United boss, Erik ten-Hag could see that as a bonus.

The Red Devils are currently fifth in the league, just three points off the top four, so their aim will be to push on in the second-half of the season and secure a Champions League spot.

If Man United can channel Felix at his best, there’s no doubt he can be a goal threat. When he was at Benfica, the forward had 24 goal contributions in 26 Portuguese League matches.
