Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United will meet up with the agents of Diogo Dalot regarding a new contract ‘right after the World Cup’.

As things stand, the Portuguese right-back will see his current deal expire in the summer. And so, technically, he could sign a pre-contract agreement with a team from overseas in January. However, the Red Devils supposedly have the option to trigger an extension and so that would prevent any immediate exit (via Manchester Evening News).

Regardless of that extension option, though, it seems as though Manchester United are keen to hand the player a proper new deal to keep him tied to the Premier League side for the long term.

Indeed, that is at least what Romano has reported on his own YouTube channel. He explained that ‘internally’ United have decided to get it all sorted once Qatar 2022 is over.

He said (2:10): “Internally, Man United have also discussed about the timing of this. And right after the World Cup Manchester United want to meet with the agents of the Diogo Dalot a lot to discuss a new contract.

“So the steps are very clear. They are really happy with the player. Erik ten Hag has always been a big fan of Dalot on the pitch, off the pitch, because in training he’s always super professional. This is something really appreciated by the manager.”

Interestingly enough, according to Globo (via 90min), United are also said to be ‘tracking’ 18-year-old Portuguese full-back Joao Moreira. However, that seems likely a transfer to bring in a backup to Dalot instead of being a replacement.

Indeed, it looks as though Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be allowed to leave in the near future with Erik ten Hag not viewing him in his long-term plans, and as right-back could be an area in the squad that sees a big change in the near future.

Evidently, though, having started all but one Premier League game this season, Dalot has done enough to secure his future with the club (that is if he wants to remain) and so a new deal will be offered in the very near future.
