Pundit, Noel Whelan has said that he would start Leeds United’s Mateusz Klich against Manchester City on December 28th.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan raved about the ‘big part’ that the 32-year-old played in the Leeds training camp and friendly matches during the World Cup break.

Tyler Adams will miss the game through suspension. The American was sent off in the last league fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.

Another option to consider is Sam Greenwood, who in recent times has operated in a midfield role. The 20-year-old broke into the squad initially as a striker.

However, Whelan thinks that the Polish midfielder to start as he has more ‘experience’ than his teammate.

He stated, “I think Klich can come in and play that role.

“He’s had a big part abroad in this training camp and the friendly matches and scored a good goal.

“There are options to come in and fill that position, but it’s a massive blow. We’ve seen how important Tyler Adams is for keeping the game ticking and keeping possession.

“But looking back at Sam Greenwood’s performances before the break, it’s got to be a toss-up between Klich and Greenwood.

“Klich has got the experience. If you’re asking me to choose one, I’d go with him. Man City are a very wise and talented side.”

TIF’s view on Whelan’s comments…

We believe that manager, Jesse Marsch should turn to Klich for the clash against Man City. He’s a more experience that the alternative option in Greenwood.

Klich has played in the Premier League 79 times throughout his time at Leeds. Whilst his teammate has only played on 13 occasions.

City are one of the most dangerous sides in the league, so with more minutes under his belt, Klich will likely fair better against their midfield.

Pep Guardiola’s side are second in the table and has scored 40 Premier League goals, the highest tally of any side so far.

Should Marsch opt to play Klich against City, it could be his last appearance for the Whites. According to journalist, Tom Bogert, D.C. United are finalizing a deal for the Polish midfielder.

Klich has been a loyal servant to Leeds, he’s been with the club since 2017. Should it be his final chapter with the club, the midfielder will want to end it on a high.
